Update: Kinshasa Transport Strike

Quick update:

The strike is over.  The government backed down on it's crackdown on drivers having to pay a pricey insurance fee.  People got to work on time this morning.  The four or five folks I talked to today seemed satisfied with the results.  Bettie said she was happy to not see women crying on the side of the street, their bags of fufu souring in the sun, never to reach the markets.  She felt like the drivers were probably happy that they "won."  Others continue to worry about the safety of this rag-tag, private monopoly that is the Kinshasa transport system.  The strike doesn't make the roads safer, they say.
