Les Femmes d’Honneur: Mama Youyou does J.Crew

My sister, Katie, is getting married this summer!

Ryan & Katie

Which prompted me to have the genius idea of hiring Mama Youyou to make the bridesmaid’s dresses out of Congolese pagne. Before asking Katie, I ran it by Adam and like all of my genius ideas he said, “Don’t do it. She’ll feel obligated to say yes and then will end up with ridiculous looking bridesmaids dresses.” I asked her anyway and this is exactly what has happened.

And we couldn’t be more exited!

So Jill and I went traipsing through many shops (indoors and outdoors) taking illegal photos of different fabric options.

We finally picked this:

We femmes d’honneur have found dresses we like; mostly pulling images from J.Crew for Mama Youyou to recreate with pagne.

Between Mama Youyou’s measurement details in French and my scribbled translations, it’s getting a little crazy. And besides Mama Youyou's semi-judgmental "amazement" that we've all chosen to wear short dresses in a wedding, it's been a great project for all.

(More updates to come as we progress and Adam's head-shaking turns more and more into "I told you so.")
